Indian authorities have apprehended Harshik Mukeshbhai Patel, a Kolkata resident, for allegedly orchestrating a cryptocurrency investment scam worth $180,000. The arrest occurred in Gujarat's Gandhinagar district, with the suspect subsequently transferred to Kolkata for remand proceedings. The case stems from a September 2023 complaint filed by Aurobinda Maji at Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station.
The fraudulent operation involved a sophisticated fake investment platform mimicking legitimate crypto exchanges, complete with wallet functionality and promises of unrealistic returns.
