Indian authorities have apprehended Harshik Mukeshbhai Patel, a Kolkata resident, for allegedly orchestrating a cryptocurrency investment scam worth $180,000. The arrest occurred in Gujarat's Gandhinagar district, with the suspect subsequently transferred to Kolkata for remand proceedings. The case stems from a September 2023 complaint filed by Aurobinda Maji at Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station.

The fraudulent operation involved a sophisticated fake investment platform mimicking legitimate crypto exchanges, complete with wallet functionality and promises of unrealistic returns. Scammers employed multiple bank accounts to siphon funds while encouraging victims to diversify across unspecified digital assets—a common tactic to obscure theft patterns.
